Laura Kostovich recently received her Master of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in the unique field of biomedical visualization. Through this program she learned to transform complex medical and scientific concepts into accurate visual representations for audiences to use as educational tools. This degree allowed her to combine her artistic and scientific skills through courses such as: Anatomical Visualization, Pathophysiology, Anatomy with cadaver lab, Animation, Advanced Graphic Design, Illustration Techniques, and many others. Her graduate research project focused on creating an e-learning interactive for children with spina bifida to learn about their birth defect.
In 2010, Laura graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, IL. Her degree focused on the various disciplines of biology, but she also satisfied her creative side by obtaining a minor in fine art. She was an active member of the biology honor society, Tri Beta, and was selected to participate in the Honors Program where she was mentored by Dr. Randolph Krohmer. For her Senior Honors Project she designed, developed, illustrated, and published the first ever atlas of the Red-Sided Garter Snake Brain. During her senior year, Laura illustrated two scientific works supplementing Dr. Krohmer's research, which are published in a peer-reviewed journal and textbook.
Laura specializes in biomedical and scientific digital illustrations, graphic design, and e-learning.
When she is taking a break from her work she enjoys reading, getting lost in a movie, shoe shopping, going to concerts and exploring what her hometown, Chicago, has to offer. Most of all, she enjoys finding the newest piece of inspiration that will push her creativity further.
